A little bit of my place, Makassar

Ever someone asked you about your place, your city, or maybe even your country?? How did you describe about that to him/her?? If I get a same question, perhaps I will explain my place like this....

I lived in Makassar, Indonesia. Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia. Indonesia lies between latitudes 11oS and 6oN and longitudes 95oE and 141oE. It consist of 17,508 islands, about 6,000 islands is inhabited. These are scattered over both sides of the equator.The capital of my country is Jakarta.
My city, Makassar is about 1413 km from Jakarta (6o10.5'S and 106o49.7'E) and this city is one of big cities in Indonesia. Makassar was located in the Island of Sulawesi, precisely on the southwest coast of Sulawesi Island at 5o8'S 119o25'E, facing the Makassar Strait with the famous coast Losari. I lived at 4 kilometers from central of Makassar, Karebosi field, the biggest field in Makassar.

The total area of ​​the city of Makassar, totaling approximately 175.77 km2 land and including 12 islands in the Strait of Makassar plus a vast territorial waters approximately 100 km2.
In the West of Makassar, there is Makassar Strait. In the East of Makassar there is Maros Regency. While in the Norht and South of Makassar, there are Kepulauan Pangkajene Regency and Gowa Regency.

As we know, Makassar is the coastal area. So, this city have few interest place, like Cape, and small Island that can serve as the tourist destination.But, don't worry. We can see mountain also. Although the mountain is not in Makassar, like Bawakaraeng.
Stretch of the coral islands at South Sulawesi, extends Southern-Northern, starting Takalar regency in southern until the islands of Pangkep (Pangkajene Kepulauan) Regency. It's called Spermonde Shelf with amounth about +- 120 islands and 12 (twelve) of them are part of the Makassar city. Such as :
  1. Laccukang/Lajjukang island is the outermost island, 40 km from the central of Makassar. Shape of this island elongated southwest - northeast, with a broad reach over 6 ha, with a surrounding reef flat area of ​​11 ha. On the east is an area that is open and there is plain that juts out (spit). While in western, there is a lighthouse. Vegetation on the island is quite dense, with trees spread evenly, dominated by pine trees and coconut trees and banana trees in the middle of the island.
  2. Langkai island is 36 km from the city of Makassar. The wide reach more than 27 ha., with a surrounding reef flat area 142 ha.
  3. Lumu-lumu Island is 28 km from the city of Makassar. Although the vast island is only 3.75 ha, or nearly half of the size of P. Lanjukang, but its population reached 984 people or 30 times that of P. Lanjukang. Biota found in coastal islands, were: sea grass, seaweed, crabs, sea snails, sand worms, sea cucumbers
  4. Bonetambung Island round, with an area of ​​5 ha, or is 18 km from Makassar. The position in the eastern of Langkai island. Waters north and east of the port navigation channel, with a depth of more than 40 meters (± 900 meters from the beach), there are waters west of the reef flats, on the outside of sekitas 1 km there is a depth of 20 m, and on the south-west around 1 km there is a very shallow areas with depths less than 5 meters.
  5. The other islands are Kodingareng Lompo, Kodingareng Keke, Barrang Lompo, Barrang Caddi, Samalona, Lae-lae, Lae-lae Kecil, and Kayangan. The most popular is Kayangan and then Samalona.

     
In Makassar, there is a river caller Tallo river which divides the city of Makassar. Along this river can be done by traditional boat with outboard engines-powerd 50 PK or more.
Tallo River extends hundreds of miles of mountainous territory in Maros regency until the Makassar Strait. But, we can do the adventure of Tallo river starting from a pier in Complex Bukit Baruga, Antang, District Mangala, and ends at Pier POPSA, Ujung Pandang street, on the coast of Makassar.

This trip takes about an hour with the trajectory along approximately six miles.

Tallo River is still quite rich with vegetation. Aquatic plants dominate the left and right river. Calm green eyes. In some parts, traditional villages stage shaped houses are still visible. Residents greet friendly every tourists who pass by.
